Impact of State Budgets

1. Equal to one-quarter of our previous state appropriations
2. Faculty are contractually forbidden to work on 6 days this term.
3. Two(2) State Budget Reduction Closure on Oct 22 and Nov 30 chosen by admin.
4. Four days I chose Sep 18, Sep 25, Oct 9, Nov 20.
5. No meeting with students, advising, grading tests, responding to student work, writing letters of recommendation, and answering course-related e-mail.
6. Assigned additional course work.

Work

1. 25~35 -- 2 hours of study per week, for each unit you are taking.
2. Study assigned parts of books, handouts, and online resources to prepare for each class.

3. Expect to work in class.
4. Do not plan to do homework or sit back and listen.
5. Turn off or silence phones.
6. Shut down computers and wireless devices unless instructed to use them.

Cheating and Copying

1. Plagiarism means presenting others' work as your own.
2. Punished at CSUSB. See the catalog.
3. If you borrow something state where you found it.
4. When I spot plagiarism, I give ALL copies the same score - ZERO.

Assessment

1. Computers and wireless devices may not be used in exams.
2. I give the highest weighting to points that I see you earn. A comprehensive final examination normally makes a big difference.
3. I do not set special make-up work or grade late work.
4. I design my grading so that an 'A-' is possible with roughly one week of work missing.
5. I bend these rules for emergencies
6. You can earn 5 bonus/make up points (1%) by attending a computer science seminar [ http://cse.cusb.edu/dick/seminar/ ] and giving me a one or two paragraph summary of a presentation by the start of the next class.

Grading

1. No curve.
2. The maximum number of points is 500.
3. No more than 300 can be carried forward.
4. No more than 200 points can be earned in the final.
5. The totals are added and converted to percentages.

7. 65 D- 68.33 D 71.66 D+ <75
8. 75 C- 78.33 C 81.66 C+ <85
9. 85 B- 88.33 B 91.66 B+ <95
10. 95 A- 98.33 A 100

Adds and Drops

You are responsible for carrying out all adds and drops. If you are not on my roster by census date (above), I can not give you a grade and you must leave the classroom. If you do not drop before the census date I am forced to give you a grade.

Emergencies

Earthquakes: Remain calm, duck, grab furniture, and cover your head.

Campus Closed: I will switch to online mode from home. I will use campus EMail and the web communicate.

H1N1 Swine Flu: If you think you may have the flu, please stay home. Switch to [ online mode ] to keep up to date and submit work electronically. No doctor's note. You make up any participation, quizzes, and exams that you miss by staying at home.
