Department Of Computer Science Independent Study Presentation Topic: IP, Not Just a Protocol Presenter: Kevin Yetter Advisor: Dr. Richard Botting Place: JB 391 Date: Thursday, May 3, 2007 Time: 11:00-11:30 AM Abstract: The field of intellectual property has long stood as a tried and true basis for recognizing inventors and innovative works. More recent innovations in the field of software development have created works and ideas that have strained the traditional paradigms in this field. Kenneth Nichols recognized problems that have developed. Since Nicholswork, the system has been slow to respond and change to address the challenges posed by software that can express creativity and have practical solutions at the same time. In the gap of protections that has opened, alternatives have been developed in attempts to bring some sense of order back to the fractured field.
